Cakewreks.com Study

Below are a collection of materials related to the study of cakewreks.com. Cakewreks.com was pre-selected for its usability issues by my professor for my team. As a team, we analyzed the site with a provided list of heuristics expected for a user-centered website, created user surveys, questionnaires, and task scenarios. Individually, I ran a usability test and redesigned several site pages to resolve the major issues discovered during the usability test through task scenarios and participant observation.

Site Comp Design Revision

To solve for the main usability issues with the site, four pages were selected for redesign, based on usability testing and heuristic evaluation results.

These revisions were executed using Adobe XD and focused on creating clear navigation, labels, and conforming to genres to meet users' mental models of a website. The complete design explanation is found in the report below.

Data Analysis

As a collaborative effort, we presented our analysis of cakewreks.com to our class. The presentation included all of our documentation for this study, including:

  • User Survey

  • Personas based on the results of the User Survey

  • Pre-test Questionnaire

  • Task Scenarios

  • Post-test Questionnaire

  • Results

Testing Materials

These testing materials were created collaboratively and include:

  • Pre-Test Questionnaire - designed and edited in Google Forms for study participants to fill out before the usability study to understand their demographics, behaviors, and preconceived notions about cakewreks.com

  • Task Scenarios to be used in identifying possible usability issues on cakewreks.com

  • Post-Test Questionnaire - designed and edited in Google Forms to gather participants' thoughts on their experiences during the usability test

  • Observation Sheets - to document what our testing participants said and did during the usability test

  • Script - to make sure that the test participants understood that they were not being tested and what to expect during the test

User Survey

As a team, we created this User Survey in Google Forms. The survey was then posted to several thematically relevant social media platforms/pages and requested that people spend a few moments to fill it out.

This survey allowed us to practice building surveys with non-leading questions. Additionally, the results were evaluated and two personas were created, based on the themes we pulled from the results.
